Trampoline Gymnastics
Trampoline gymnastics (TRA) involves a series of skills performed at thrilling heights, across 4 different disciplines.
Inspired by safety nets beneath circus acrobats, gymnast George Nissen constructed the first trampoline prototype in 1934. Whilst it caught on quickly as a backyard activity, the first World Championships were not held until 1948 and was added to the Olympic programme in 2000.
Individual
Two routines are performed showing consistency of height, skill and minimum deviation from the centre of the trampoline bed.
Synchronised
The added challenge of timing, as two athletes perform the same routine simultaneously on adjacent trampolines.
Double-mini
A short run up on to a two-level mini-trampoline to perform a rebounding skill before a dismount, on to a landing mat.
